Maplewood Enrollment Grew This Fall, Beating the Forecast

Maplewood enrollment is up. 📊 PPS’s official October 1 count puts Maplewood at 304 students this fall: 17 more than last year and 16 more than the forecast PPS is using to plan school closures. Of the 10 west side K-5 schools, Maplewood is the only one that grew and beat its forecast. 💪

📈 Up from last fall: 287 students in fall 2025, 304 now (+17).
🎯 Above the forecast: Portland State’s Population Research Center forecast 288 students for this year. We have 304 (+16).
🏫 Bigger than the receiving schools: Maplewood students would move to Hayhurst (286 students) or Rieke (254). Maplewood is now larger than both. See why closing Maplewood would overcrowd Hayhurst.
🧒 By grade: K 48, 1st 55, 2nd 40, 3rd 45, 4th 64, 5th 52.

❓ Why it matters: The PSU forecast has Maplewood shrinking every year, down to 231 students by 2035. This fall went the other way. Maplewood is growing and families are choosing it, and that’s a strong reason to keep it open.

📣 Share the numbers: send this post to your neighbors, and bring the 304 to the next board meeting or public comment.
