Read-a-Thon

The Maplewood Read-a-Thon is one of PTA’s biggest fundraisers.  This year we are hoping to raise $12,000! PTA uses the money raised to support our teachers and classroom needs such as technology, art, science, books and learning materials, as well as school improvements.

When:
  • Read-a-thon will be the week of October 23rd – 27th
  • October 23rd – 27th: Count your student’s minutes/pages & track them on paper or online.
  • October 23rd – November 3rd: Collect pledges.
  • Monday, November 6th: Turn in reading logs with minutes.
  • Monday, November 6th: Deadline to turn in all donations (99 pledges site, checks, or square site).
How It Works:
  • We encourage students to keep track of their minutes read at home and teachers will help track their time they read at school using the Read-A-Thon tracking sheet.  Teachers will report their reading time to their students as well so students can report on their individual sheets.  Each class will have a reading thermometer so they can see how much they’re reading at school.  And there will be a school wide donation thermometer by the office.  Don’t forget to turn in your reading log on Monday, November 6th!
  • We encourage you to reach out to family and friends to sponsor or donate to your students’ Read-a-thon.  Sending personalized videos or making phone calls to family and friends asking for donations is a great idea.
3 Ways to Donate:

(1) Make a pledge: using 99 pledges platform: https://app.99pledges.com/fund/maplewoodr

Using 99 pledges helps make payments & sharing our fundraiser easier for family and friends. Please use what is best for you and your family.  There are no fees to make payments online with 99 pledges.

  1. FLAT DONATION – You can sponsor a student with a flat amount.
  2. PLEDGE PER MINUTE – You can pledge an amount for minutes read. For example, if a student read 60 minutes and if you sponsored a student for 25 cents, you would owe .25 * 60 minutes = $15.

To set up your student on this platform, click on the link above, then scroll down to the bottom left and click on ‘Add Participant’.  You enter their first name, last name initial, your email and add their teacher & grade.  Then you can share their page with friends & family. You must provide an email when you add a participant and 99 pledges will send you a welcome email to set up the page.  You DO NOT have to add a photo.

(2) Pay by check: Families are welcome to make pledges and pay by check. Please make checks out to Maplewood PTA and write Read-a-thon in the Memo.  Pledge sheets, cash and checks should be dropped off in the PTA Box or mailed to the school at 7452 SW 52nd Ave, Portland, OR 97219, by November 3rd

(3) Pay through the PTA Square Site: https://maplewood-pta.square.site/?location=11eaf53f195b7347b510ac1f6bbba828&item=112

We also have our PTA square available for those who do not want to use 99 pledges.
