Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, and advocated to get us to this point. Because of you, Maplewood now has a field that will benefit generations of students to come.
After years of planning, fundraising, and advocacy, the Maplewood outdoor improvement project is finally complete, and it looks amazing!
For more than eight years, the PTA has been working toward a field that our students and community can use year-round. The old upper field was often muddy and unusable for much of the school year. Now, thanks to the incredible support of our families, community partners, and countless volunteer hours, the field has been transformed into a durable, all-weather play space that’s ready to be enjoyed.
How We Got Here
This project has been a true labor of love. Over the years, we’ve partnered with Portland Public Schools (PPS), engaged with designers, and secured funding to bring this vision to life. The new field features VistaScape Flow 75 turf; selected for its durability and proven performance at other high-traffic sites, along with a new walking path that wraps around the perimeter. This combination ensures our students have a safe, functional space for recess and PE, and gives our neighborhood a beautiful spot to walk, run, and gather.

Looking Ahead: Phase 2 Expansion
While we’re thrilled to celebrate the completion of this project, we’re not done yet. Our original vision includes expanding the turf to fill the entire area inside the walking path, creating even more usable space for sports, games, and community activities. We’d also like to pursue repainting the blacktop, adding a stage, adding a rebound wall, and much more.
To make Phase 2 a reality, we still need to close a funding gap, and you can help us get there.
The Maplewood Auction will return in the Spring 2026, with all proceeds going directly toward the Phase 2 expansion. Combined with ongoing donations, this event will help us complete the full vision for our outdoor space.
